Girls Bedroom Inspiration

So...I'm working on an upcoming homeshow house and I'm starting to look for inspiration for a girls bedroom (much more fun than a boys!). I want it to be feminine and fun, not too little-girlish. I know I want to use lilac/lavender, deciding on if it should be the all over color or an accent on white/gray? We shall see! Here are some of the inspiration photos that I have been eying up...

So beautiful! I could move right into this room...

Gorgeous color palette

Black & White Perfection!

 Nice soothing room

This room looks light and calming - really like this one...

Pretty...! Thinking of using two twin beds...

Possibly my favorite inspirational photo for this space?
Neutral background, lots of color on the bed...

Love this room, although not the color direction I'm thinking...

I really like this space as well!

Stay tuned...!

Small Spaces

I was thrilled when the Small Spaces issue of House Beautiful came in the mail this month! I think it's my favorite issue every year, and I need the actual copy of the magazine in my hands. The internet is convenient for a lot of things, but it is so satisfying to get the real deal in the mail each month. Anyway...back to design...
It's quite amazing what can be done in such small living quarters, and it actually doesn't look tiny at all! This space was designed by Ashley Whittaker and is just 800 square feet! If every nook and cranny of your home is beautiful and organized, why does it have to be big? In one aspect you can perfect every area because there is less space to decorate.....!
My favorite design detail of this apartment is that it's overflowing with wallpaper, yet it doesn't feel overwhelming or cluttered in any way. Virtually every wall with exception to the main living area has wallpaper, and a few of them are very bold! I personally love the Osborne & Little foyer paper - it's always been a favorite.

Details are what make each room individual and unique. I often find that people will complete all of the big furniture pieces in a room, add in some lamps and art, and call it a day! The room is hardly finished at that point, one of the most important parts is what comes next! By adding books, art, lamps, decorative objects and personal meaningful items to space is what makes it special. Don't forget to add some form a greenery too, whether it be fresh flowers, plants or even preserved topiaries (I tend to kill any living plant so I opt for the occasional fresh cut flowers, but always have preserved topiaries). The items should be collected, so it doesn't look like you took a store display and plopped it on your coffee table. Add in items that are new and old to get unique, eclectic looking vignette's. Think of it as putting together little collections of items that work well with each other but vary in size, height, and style.
